The problem
Usually Kempen´s water is germ-free from well to tap and does not need a chemical disinfection. But during situations of increased risk of microbiological contamination such as maintenance or repair of pipes or tanks, emergency chlorination is used. A measuring set-up to control the disinfectant dosing is always kept running in good working order so as to be ready when needed.
The challenge
Most of the time, non-chlorinated water flows through the assembly. With common measurement techniques, this usually leads to organic growth. As a result, malfunction of the measurement is possible, the sensor resp. its membrane gets clogged and has to be exchanged. A preventive measure is regular examination and mechanical cleaning. Some operators even dose small amounts of Chlorine from time to time for the sake of the measuring equipment without any necessity as regards the drinking water quality.
Our solution
The Chlorine measurement in Kempen is now carried out by the measuring system Krypton K Multi from Dr. A. Kuntze. This is a pressure-proofed amperometric measurement with automatic sensor cleaning. The blank electrodes are in direct contact with the measuring media and react directly to every concentration change. The electrode are automatically self-cleaned once per day. Thus the original signal strength is maintained and the maintenance requirements reduced – even in prolonged chlorine-free operation.
