The International Water Aid Organization IWAO is a nonprofit organization based in Heidelberg that helps supply people in disaster areas with potable water.

After earthquakes, hurricanes, or floods, potable water is often a severe problem – people die of thirst or start drinking contaminated water, and diseases start to spread. The IWAO has specialized since its founding in 2005 in just these situations: Its active members combine expertise on drinking water supply with the calamity experience of fire brigades and aid groups, enabling the organization to solve all related problems and tasks in disaster areas competently and quickly. The IWAO understands its position as a supplement to the recognized international institutions such as the THW or the red cross, and often places its forces at their disposal.
